Barangay tanod shot dead in front of gf

SAN ISIDRO, Nueva Ecija – A 37-year-old barangay tanod was shot dead while driving home with his girlfriend in a gun attack staged by two unidentified riding-in-tandem suspects here on Friday night.

Killed was Glen Manalastas, widower, of Purok 7, Bgy. Pulo, this town.

Acting police head Major Karl Jayson P. Dela Cruz, who assumed his new post on Monday here, said the barangay tanod was driving a black Suzuki GD motorcycle attached with an improvised sidecar with his girlfriend as passenger during the attack which transpired in the vicinity of Purok 2, Bgy. Pulo at 9 p.m.

Two unidentified suspects on board an unidentified motorcycle overtook the victim and its backrider fired once using a cal. 45 pistol, hitting the victim in the neck.

Dela Cruz said the wounded victim was initially rushed by his colleagues for emergency treatment at the nearby Nueva Ecija Medical Center in Bgy. Diversion, Maharlika Highway in San Leonardo but was later transferred to the Nueva Doctors’ Hospital in Cabanatuan City where he died while being treated of his gunshot wound.

Dela Cruz said dragnet operations are still underway for possible arrest and identification of the suspects.

He said they are still clueless as to the motive behind the killing.
