PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., has ordered all concerned units led by the PNP Aviation Security Group (PNP-ASG) to fully assist passengers affected by the glitch in the air traffic management system that disrupted operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

“While civil aviation authorities continue working to restore normal flight operations at the NAIA following a glitch in the air traffic management system, the PNP Aviation Security Group has been instructed to extend utmost assistance to affected passengers who remain stranded in the NAIA terminals,” the top cop said.

Apart from giving orders to the PNP-ASG headed by Brigadier Gen. Anthony A. Aberin, Azurin likewise instructed the Southern Police District (SPD), which has territorial jurisdiction over the NAIA complex to provide manpower support to the AvSeGroup and the MIAA (Manila International Airport Authority) management for vehicular and pedestrian traffic control.

“If it becomes necessary, other PNP National Support Units such as EOD/K9 Group, Health Service and Police-Community Affairs Development Group may be called upon to provide augmentation and operational support,” he added.

According to Azurin, security and order at the NAIA remain the primary concern in their law enforcement and public safety operations.

“Unattended luggage and influx of stranded passengers at the airport terminals are red flag situations that will prompt our security personnel to take appropriate action to ensure public safety,” Azurin declared.
