‘Ayuda’ program
THE two-chamber Congress woulddo well to speed up the passage of measures at making the national government’s “ayuda” program
Admittedly, the highly-successful “Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP)” is a big help to low-salaried workers across the country.
Now pending consideration in the House of Representatives, headed by Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualderz, are House Bill (HB) Nos. 11048 and 10700.
HB Nos. 11048 and 10700 are authored by Reps. Gerville Luistro of Batangas and Rosemarie Panotes of Camarines Norte, respectively.
Reports said the proposed pieces of legislation have been referred to the House committee on social services.
In filing her bill, Luistro, a lawyer, noted that inflation has reduced the purchasing power of many workers in the government and private sector.
Congresswoman Panote’s HB No. 10700 contains the same provisions as HB 11048.
She cited the success of the Department of Social and Welfare Development’s “AKAP” in helping low-income workers.
Certainly, the government’s “ayuda” program has been a “lifeline” for millions of the country’s minimum wage earners.
