THE Association of Women Legislators Foundation, Inc. (AWLFI) launched its traditional “PamasCONG Handog : Garage Sale for a Cause IV” at the north wing lobby of the House of Representatives last Monday.

Known for its humanitarian projects, the AWLFI organized the event to support the implementation of the Philippine Mental Law and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

AWLFI Chairperson and Tingog Party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez said the proceeds from the fundraising will fund the construction of a women and children protection unit building at the National Center for Mental Health in Mandaluyong.

She described the fundraising as a “landmark project of the AWLFI of the 19th Congress.” She also stressed that “each purchase helps strengthen the sustainability of our local entrepreneurs and MSMEs.”

AWLFI President and Bulacan Fourth District Rep. Linabelle Ruth Villarica thanked her fellow legislators who shared some of their pre-loved items and those who have brought in various novelty items and goods from their districts.

“Maipagmamalaki namin na mas marami at mas kalidad ang mapamimili ng inyong Christmas bonus,” she said.

Some of the remarkable products include vibrant fabrics from Ilocos; fresh carabao milk from Batangas; organic coffee from Misamis Occidental; creative handcrafts from Samar and Leyte; Pampanga sweets and delicacies; Mindanao handcrafted pearls and accessories; fine jewelries and kakanin from Bulacan, among others.

Event Chairperson and San Jose del Monte City Rep. Florida Robes said the proceeds will create an impact on the disposition of women and children who need the protection unit facility to know there are people who truly care about their healing and wellbeing.

Celebrity and Quezon City Councilor Aiko Melendez, Coleen Garcia and Billy Crawford graced the occasion. San Miguel Corp. is the event’s major sponsor.
