AUSTRALIA will provide the Philippines P480.2 million (AUD13.72 million) grant to purchase COVID-19 vaccines.

In a tweet, Australian Ambassador Steven Robinson AO said he had informed Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, Vaccine Czar Carlito Galvez Jr. and Testing Czar Vince Dizon about Australia’s additional commitment.

This will be implemented in partnership with the UNICEF, which will purchase the vaccines but was coordinated with the Philippine government.

“This will make an important contribution to meeting the country’s vaccine needs in 2021,” the Ambassador said.

Last week, Australia announced its commitment to provide at least 20 million vaccine doses to global G7 to boost access to COVID-19 vaccines and pandemic preparedness in developing countries.

These doses will build on Australia’s existing significant financial and technical support for the Pacific and Southeast Asia.

Australia has also contributed $130 Million to COVAX Advance Market Commitment for developing countriesw to deliver more than 1.8 billion doses worldwide, reaching at least 114 million people in Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
