DEFENDING two-time champion Ateneo and University of the Philippines bested their respective foes to remain perfect in the UAAP women’s badminton tournament at the Centro Atletico Badminton Center in Quezon City.

The Blue Eagles prevailed over University of Santo Tomas, 4-1, while the Fighting Maroons scored a 5-0 victory over Adamson.

Ateneo and UP, which will face off for the solo lead on Saturday, raised their records to 2-0.

National team member Mika De Guzman, Chanelle Lunod and Jochelle Alvarez produced singles victories, while De Guzman and Lunod gave the Blue Eagles’ lone doubles win.

The Tigresses’ Jennifer Saladaga and Rhafi Santos averted a shutout by winning the other doubles match.

Aldreen Concepcion, Thea Gonzalez and Janelle Andres won their respective singles matches, while the doubles pairs of Andrea Abalos and Mica Ibong, and national team standouts Lea Inlayo and Susmita Ramos also emerged triumphant for the Fighting Maroons.

National University entered the win column with a 5-0 sweep of La Salle in the other tie.

The Bulldogs rebounded from last Sunday’s 1-4 loss to tie the Green Archers in third place at 1-1 and more importantly hold the tiebreaker in case two teams will ended up tied for a place in the podium after the single-round eliminations.

The Tigresses and the Lady Falcons fell to 0-2.
