THE suspect in the Ateneo shooting is now undergoing COVID-19 quarantine protocols at a facility in Quezon City supervised by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

In a text message, BJMP -National Capital Region (NCR) director Chief Supt. Luisito Munoz said that Dr. Chao-Tiao Yumul will be at the QC Jail Quarantine Facility/Ligtas COVID Center in Brgy. Payatas under the care of warden Senior Insp. Prince DJ Orbase.

The QC Police District has transferred the Ateneo murder suspect to the BJMP Saturday around 10 am.

Yumul according to Munoz will stay at the QC Ligtas Covid Center for at least 14 days while his transfer to a much safer facility has already been worked out.

If tested negative for COVID-19 virus, Munoz said that the doctor suspect will most likely be committed to a male dorm facility in Bicutan, Taguig, capable of handling high risk and high profile persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).

Yumul is currently facing multiple murder charges for fatally shooting former Lamitan City Mayor Rose Furigay, her executive assistant Victor Capistrano, and Ateneo security guard Jeneven Bandiala Sunday (July 24).

Days after the shooting rage, Yumul’s father Rolando was shot dead by one of the two motorcycle-riding suspects outside his residence in Lamitan City, Basilan.

The police is still investigating the elder Yumul’s slaying.

Interior Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. has appealed to the public to refrain from making assumptions about the case as he ordered the police to tighten security in Lamitan.

“I have ordered the PNP to tighten existing checkpoints in Lamitan City, including its borders to prevent the culprits in the Yumol slaying from escaping,” Abalos said.
