ASEAN Para Games champs at Sports On Air

IT’S all about the Philippines’ highly- successful campaign in the recent 11th ASEAN Para Games in Solo, Indonesia with chess champions FM Sander Severino and Cheyzer Crystal Mendoza and swimming hero Ernie Gawilan taking center stage in the 34th “Sports on Air” program on Thursday, Aug.18.

Severino, who holds the distinction as the most bemedalled Filipino athlete during the week-long competition with four golds and two silvers, and Mendoza, who bagged two golds and two silvers, will talk about their perfomances in chess.

Joining them in the 10:30 a.m. program is well-known chess coach James Infiesto.

Also with the group is Gawilan, who took home two golds, one silver and one bronze in the swimming competitions.

Overall, the Filipinos brought home a total of 104 medals — 28 golds, 30 silvers and 46 bronzes — to finish fifth overall in the 11-nation competition.

It was the best performances by the Filipinos since the 2009 edition in Kuala Lumpur where they won 24 golds, 24 silvers and 26 bronzes.

This will be the 34th episode of “Sports On Air”, the hottest and most comprehensive sports talk show on air.

The weekly program is managed by Ed Andaya of People’s Tonight, Ernest Leo Hernandez of SOA, Gerard Arce of Abante, Ivan Saldajeno of Philippine News Agency, Gab Ferreras of Sports Corner, Jean Malanum of Manila Times and Danny Simon of Police Files.
