AN armed theft suspect was killed in a shootout with patrolling policemen in Davao City while nine others were arrested in separate anti-criminality operations in the region on Friday, Police Regional Office 11 director, Brigadier General Benjamin H. Silo Jr. said yesterday.

The official identified the slain suspect as Jeric Inliong alias ‘Taba,’ a long-time subject of a police operation in Davao City amid his alleged involvement in theft and ‘salisi’ activities in the area.

Brig. Gen. Silo said that around 9 p.m . Friday, members of the Davao City Police Station 18 responded to a complaint that an unidentified man snatched the cellphone of a 22-year old online seller in Opal Street corner Veloso St. in Barangay Paciano Bangoy.

Officers eventually spotted the suspect in Purok SOS, Jereza Subdivision in Bgy. Wilfredo Aquino where the victim who was with them positively identified him as the thief.

While being confronted by the lawmen, the suspect drew a concealed firearm and fired shots at the officers who were forced to retaliate hitting the latter in the body. The suspect was taken to the Southern Philippines Medical Center where an attending physician declared him dead upon arrival.

Recovered from the slain suspect were a caliber .38 revolver with a spent cartridge and several live ammunition.

Brig. Gen. Silo said that another anti-criminality operation in Purok 13, Bgy. San Miguel in Tagum City, Davao del Norte led to the arrest of eight ‘high-value drug targets,’ two of them found to be maintaining a local drug den.

He identified the suspects as Modesto Parallaga, Meshel Dano, Butch Tabuzares, Rigor Ramales, William de Vera, Yul Clint Misoles, Jodee Porlares and Mike Guadelquiver.

Confiscated from the suspects’ possession were two caliber .45 semi-automatic pistols, one 12-gauge shotgun, one cal. 9mm Uzi machine pistol, dozens of assorted live ammunition and around 47 grams of shabu valued at P319,000.

In Bgy. Central in Mati City, Davao Oriental, local policemen also arrested Aaron Dave Seton, tagged as the 7thmost wanted person in the city on the strength of a warrant of arrest for rape and child abuse. Judge Semiramis Castro of the Mati City Regional Trial Court Branch 5 recommended no bail for the temporary freedom of the accused last January 20, the PRO11 director said.
