A mayoral candidate on Friday was arrested while some P3.4 million worth of shabu was seized during the service of a search warrant in his house in Cotabato.

Midsayap police chief Lt. Col. Rolly Oranza identified the arrested suspect as Tom Nandang alias “Datukon Nandang,” 52, temporarily residing in Bgy. Upper Glad 1, Midsayap. Cotabato.

Oranza said Nandang is running for mayor in Northern Kabuntalan, Maguindanao.

Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Cotabato, PDEA-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, 34th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, and the Midsayap Municipal Police Station served the search warrant against the suspect.

Seized from the suspect’s house were a cal. 45 pistol, ammunition, 10 big packets of shabu worth around P3.4 million, and some drug paraphernalia.

Oranza said the arrest of Nandang was a product of long surveillance.

Nandang did not resist arrest but vehemently denied he was into illegal drugs.

The suspect is detained at the Midsayap Police Station Jail, facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002 and illegal possession of firearms.

Earlier this month, a former policeman who is also running for mayor and his four companions were arrested for possession of marijuana bricks at a checkpoint in Bgy. Poblacion, Sadanga, Mt. Province.
