MULTISECTORAL Angat Pinoy believes the government is on the right track to inoculate children aged five to 11, starting last Monday, February 7.

One of the partylist’s nominees, Aina del Rosario, a registered nurse and a mother of two, said every parent wants to protect their children from the virus and the first step is to get them inoculated.

The vaccination drive for kids 5-11 years old was supposed to be conducted on Friday, 4 February, but was postponed by the Department of Health (DOH) due to logistical issue.

A group of parents filed a petition in Quezon City court asking for a Temporary Restraining Order against the government’s plan to vaccinate kids aged 5-11.

“Bilang isang magulang, mas nanaisin ko na mabigyan ng bakuna ang anak ko kaysa madapuan ng virus, lalo na ngayon na mataas pa rin ang bilang ng nagkakaroon ng Covid-19,” Del Rosario said.

According to a DOH statement, the government remains steadfast in its commitment to protect all sectors of the society, including children and other vulnerable groups, and proceeded with the inoculation.

The DOH added that the policy of vaccinating aged 5-11 is the result of careful study by health experts and has been approved in many countries, including the US, which has one of the most stringest regulatory bodies in the world.

“Ang pagbabakuna sa mga bata ay isang epektibong paraang medikal para maprotektahan ang mga bata at makalabas sila lalo na sa muling pagbubukas ng face-to-face classroom,” Del Rosario said.

She respects the decision of some parents not to allow their kids from being vaccinated but believes inoculation is crucial to achieve the country’s goal of protecting all members of the Filipino family, including children, adults and senior citizens.

DOH is encouraging all parents and guardians to make the right and informed decision for their children’s health and well-being.

“Inoculating our kids will enable us to continue the safe reopening of schools and other public places, as well us ensure the full economic recovery of our nation,” del rosario added.

Angat Pinoy is a multisectoral partylist focusing in alleviating women’s welfare and rights, especially single parents, as well as small-to-medium enterprises, and senior citizens.
