A CONTRACTUAL airport security guard at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 (NAIA T2) found and returned a wallet containing 1.5 million Japanese yen, or P600,000, owned by a Japanese tourist on April 29, 2023.

Airport police said SG Crispin Toquero was in a routine inspection at the arrival area of NAIA T2 when he spotted the unattended wallet on the floor near the NAIA T2 customs zone and money exchange booths.

Toquero said without thinking, as standard protocol, he asked the airport police to announce the concern in the NAIA’s public system to address the owner of the unattended wallet.

The Japanese national Kiyoshi Fukasawa reportedly sought the assistance of airport police regarding his missing wallet containing the said amount of Japanese yen.

Airport Police Lt. Vic De Leon, head of NAIA T2, said they returned the wallet and the cash to the Japanese tourist after formal verification.

“Base dun sa mga description n’ya at yung kasama din niyang Filipina ay nagpatunay na ito nga si Fukasawa ang may-ari ng wallet na nakuha ni Toquero,” said airport police investigator.

Toquero, who has been working at the airport for the past ten years, is married with two children, and his family lives in Candon, Ilocos Sur.

“Mahirap at ordinaryo lang ang buhay namin… kontento na ako at ng aking pamilya; hindi puwedeng ipakain sa pamilya ko yung galing sa masama,” he said.
