Speaker Romualdez, Tingog Party-list give relief goods to Navotas fire victims

THE Offices of Speaker Martin G. Romualdez and Tingog Party-list Reps. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez and Jude Acidre, on Wednesday morning distributed relief goods to families displaced by a fire in Navotas City Monday night.

Singer-actress Mamshie Karla Estrada, Director for Community Engagements of Speaker Romualdez and Tingog Party-list, personally led the distribution of relief assistance to 600 families at Brgy. Bagumbayan North in Navotas City whose homes were damaged by the fire.

During the relief drive, Estrada assisted by the staff and Junior Chamber International  (JCI) officials in Navotas, namely Vice President Area II Joseph Benedict N. Prim and Secretary Kathryn Claudyn E. Zarate distributedrice, vitamins, medicines, mosquito nets, blankets, towels, bath and laundry soaps, napkins, diapers, slippers, and hygiene kits.

“Namigay din ang ating tanggapan ng mga bigas, non-food items at mga gamot sa bawat pamilyang naapektuhan. Ito po ang misyon namin, ang lagi kayong aalagaan lalo na sa panahon ng pangangailangan,” Estrada, the very proud mother of actor and recording artist Daniel Padilla, said.

On Tuesday, Speaker Romualdez turned over to Navotas Lone District Rep. Tobias “Toby” Tiangco P5 million in cash to help the victims of the fire that razed a residential area in the city Monday night.

Reports said at least five persons died while two others were injured in the fire that raged for almost six hours and reached the fifth alarm.

“Please extend my condoles to the families of those who perished in this unfortunate tragedy and my sympathies for those whose houses and properties were razed to the ground,” Romualdez told Tiangco.

“I sincerely hope this gesture of assistance we provided through the help of our friends and colleagues will help their condition,” Romualdez said.

The assistance for the fire victims was part of around P71 million in cash and pledges that Romualdez secured during his birthday celebration Monday night where he appealed to guests and friends for support to his Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Initiative.

A total of P120 million cash and pledges were generated since the Speaker Romualdez initiated a Paeng relief

Following the wide swath of destruction caused by Severe Tropical Storm “Paeng,” which triggered deadly landslides and massive flooding, Speaker Romualdez launched a fund drive and relief operations to bring help to the affected areas.

The House during Paeng relief drive raised P49.2 million in cash contributions and pledges and in-kind donations such as blankets, food items, and toiletries from private entities, which were promptly distributed to the storm victims.
