Affordable prices
THE government, through the Department of Agriculture (DA), wants to further bring down the price of rice in the local market.
Without doubt, this is “welcome news” as everybody knows that rice is the staple food of almost all the Filipino people.
We believe that the government is in a position to protect the interests of the people at a time when prices of everything are going up.
The DA hopes to bring down the price of the grain through the implementation of the government’s “Rice-for-All” program.
Under the said program, rice being sold at P40 a kilo at Kadiwa stores in Metropolitan Manila will be priced at P38-P39 per kilo.
“At ngayong taon na ito… ay ilulunsad naman (ang) mas mababa pa ang presyo – between P38 and P39 per kilo,” according to NFA.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) had earlier said that “tumatalab na ang ‘Rice-for-All’ program dahil bumaba na rin ang presyo ng bigas sa merkado.”
Likwise, DA. headed by Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel, plans to sell another variety of rice “sa murang halaga.”
The new rice variety will be sold in Metropolitan Manila under the so-called “Sulit Rice” and “Nutri Rice” programs.
Certainly, there’s enough reason to expect the government to succeed in bringing down the price of rice to affordable level.
