Adamson, St. Jude share ROTC Games limelight
ADAMSON University swept the athletics events of the Philippine Navy while St. Jude College of Quezon City dominated the Air Force competition at the end of the athletics events of the Philippine ROTC Games National Capital Region (NCR) Leg at the Philsports track oval in Pasig City.
Kent Jardin and Denmark Dacunes led the Soaring Falcons with three golds apiece and joined hands in the relay events in a mighty show of firepower in the Naval competition.
Jardin opened the two-day athletics with a win in the 200-m run with a time of 22.22 seconds while teammate Dacunes topped the 100-m dash in 11:20 second.
Both Jardin and Dacunes later on worked with John Martin and Alexander Padilla to win the men’s 4x-100-m relay in 44.50 seconds as well as the 4×400-m relay with a clocking of 3.38.87 seconds.
But not to be outdone, the Adamson Lady Falcons led by Christine Guergio also collected two gold medals in the Navy’s women’s contest after winning both the 100-dash in 13.46 seconds and the 200-m run.
But their triumph in both the women’s 4×400-m relay and 4×100-m relay was not counted as a medal because of lack of competitors.
Adamson amassed a total of eight gold medals in athletics, three each from Jardin and Dacunes and two from Guergio.
However, athletics officials said the Adamson women’s relay team in the 4×100-m and 4×400-m are still advancing into the national finals on Oct. 22 to 26 in Marikina City.
On the other hand, St. Jude College of Quezon City also secured six golds courtesy of Hecy Orbillo in the Philippine Air Force’ women’s 200-m run in 42.59 seconds and Isadora Azor in the century dash (16.88-seconds).
Their other wins were from the men’s 4×400-m run (4:47.96) as well as men’s 4×100-m relay in 58.21 seconds.
Other gold medalists were Mac James Angoring of Rizal Technological University in the Army’s 200-m run and Josie Inemendo of University of the Philippines-Diliman in the Army’s women’s 200-m run.
Artuto Ocana also of RTU topped the Army’s 100-m dash in 11.45 seconds and teammate Bernadette Batoy in the women’s 100-m category in 14.07.
The City of Malabon University grabbed the golds in the Army’s men’s 4×100-m relay in 51.22 and men (2:24.83) and women’s 4×400-m relay (5:58.12).
Also shining in the competition were Bendren Yssulan of PATTS College of Aeronautics in the Air Force’ men’s 100-m dash (13.58-seconds)John Kevin Mina of Philippine State College of Aeronautics also wrapped the gold in the PAF’ 200-m run (28.9-seconds).
Meanwhile, unheralded University of Makati surprised the highly touted Adamson Lady Falcons, 25-14, 12-25, 25-19, 25-22 to sweep the Navy’s women’s volleyball competition.
The Umak ladies ended the elimination round with a clean 3-0 win followed by Adamson with 2-1 card and De La Salle-Taft with 1-1 slate.
University of Perpetual Help System Dalta was at the bottom with 0-3 Record.
Volleyball director Adrian Tabang said that the format of the tourney will still have to be followed thus University of Makati will face UPHSD in the semis while Adamson and DLSU will collide in the other semis match.
