Adamson in convincing win vs UST
ADAMSON pulled off a convincing 5-1 victory over University of Santo Tomas to kick off its UAAP softball tournament second-round campaign on a high note yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
The Lady Falcons, who remained unbeaten in five games, have secured of at least a playoff berth for a spot in the Finals.
A standout performance from rookie Jhaycel Roldan proved pivotal in both offense and defense for the defending champions.
“Before kasi nitong game namin, sinabi ko sa mga bata napaka-importante ng game natin against UST para hindi tayo hahapit sa dulo. Sabi ko na kailangan kaming manalo kasi ‘yun ang maglalapit sa amin ng Finals. Kaya kung gusto (nilang) maglaro ng Finals, so we need to beat them,” said Adamson coach Ana Santiago.
“Although marami kaming left on base; hindi nagkakasunod ‘yung hits. Although tumatama naman, hindi nagkakasunod ‘yung hitting namin. Let’s see kung paano namin i-wo-work out ‘yung ganung situation,” she added.
La Salle rolled on to its second straight win and kept within reach of second-running University of the Philippines, hammering a six-run third inning to wallop Ateneo, 9-1, in four and one-half innings.
The Lady Batters improved to 3-3, trailing the idle Fighting Maroons (4-1) by one-and-a-half game.
Roldan, a 19-year-old product of Bacolod City National High School, had two hits in three at-bats and was also made an impact on defensive end.
The loss dropped the Tiger Softbelles on the brink of elimination with a 2-4 record.
Tiffany Labargan powered La Salle to a big win heading to their crucial encounter with UP on Saturday .
The second-year third baseman had a perfect 3-of-3 and six RBIs to help the Lady Batters log their first back-to-back wins since 2019. The win was La Salle’s huge follow up from last Saturday’s 6-5 reversal of UST.
The Blue Eagles fell to 0-6.
“Ang sinabi ko lang talaga is huwag i-underestimate ‘tong Ateneo. Kumbaga, kailangang lumaban talaga at ipakita lahat ng galing at hindi magkumpyansa. At least nanalo, kahit hindi more runs ‘yung nagawa,” said La Salle coach Jasper Cabrera.
“Ang importante talaga is itong UP kasi may chance pa kami eh. ‘Pag ma-straight namin itong UP at Adamson, hindi natin masabi, baka makapasok pa kami sa Finals,” he added.
