Acorda lauds trainee for risking life to save drowning girl
THE Philippine National Police Thursday lauded the heroic act of a police-trainee who defied death when he risked his life to save a 14-year-old girl from drowning at the Pasig River in Taytay, Rizal last October 6.
PNP chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. said police trainee August David of the National Capital Region Police Office ‘exhibited unparalleled courage and selflessness’ when he rescued a girl suffering from depression when she jumped into the river.
Witnesses clapped and cheered as David, 26, of Valenzuela City Police Office, jumped into the river after seeing the Grade 9 student plunged into the river around 12:30 p.m. last Oct. 6.
The cop was on board a passenger jeep on his way to Taytay when he spotted the girl climbing the guardrail of the Barkadahan Floodway Bridge before jumping.
Without hesitation, the policeman immediately alighted from the jeep, took off his shoes and emptied the contents of his pockets before jumping into the river to rescue the victim.
The victim was immediately taken to the Taytay Emergency Hospital where she was declared in stable condition.
“The Philippine National Police takes great pride in acknowledging and commending the heroic act of Police Trainee August David who exhibited unparalleled courage and selflessness when he rescued a drowning girl from the treacherous currents of a river in Taytay, Rizal,” said Acorda.
“His immediate and fearless response to a life-threatening situation is a testament to his vow to serve and protect, even at the risk of his own life,” he said.
“We salute PT August David for his exceptional bravery and boldness in the face of danger. His actions represent the very essence of selfless service and sacrifice, qualities that are integral to the mission of the PNP,” he added.
“The PNP extends its heartfelt gratitude to PT August David for embodying the highest ideals of the police force and for his remarkable and selfless act of heroism.
His actions reflect the values and dedication that the PNP strives to instill in all its members,” Acorda remarked.
