Accidental firing kills Bataan town police chief

ORANI, Bataan – The chief of police in Pilar town, this province died after he reportedly shot himself by accident early Monday morning.

Col. Romelle Velasco, Bataan police director, identified the victim as Maj. Rizaldy Rubio, 43, a resident of Barangay Tapulao, Orani, this province.

An attending physician declared the victim dead on arrival at the Orani District Hospital.

The Orani police station said in a report that it received a phone call from May Rubio, wife of the victim, telling that her husband was rushed to the hospital after she saw his bloodied body with a gunshot wound in the right abdomen, sprawled on the floor.

Prior to this, she said she heard a gunshot outside of their room.

The victim’s wife is also a member of the Philippine National Police with the rank of chief master sergeant.

An investigation on the alleged accidental firing is still going on. Philippine News Agency
