THE bungled mass turnover of eight senior Philippine National Police officials last Tuesday will finally push thru, sources privy to the issue told the Journal Group yesterday.

Highly-reliable sources said that Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ C. Abalos Jr. and PNP chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. have already talked to resolve the issue.

“The two have already talked and Sec. Abalos has ordered the National Police Commission to convene to confirm the official orders.

Sec. Abalos wants the Napolcom confirmation expedited,” one of the sources who requested anonymity said.

Gen. Acorda explained that he is only ‘filling-up vacancies” in the PNP, and, thus, the so-called “ripple effect.”

The postponed mass turnover is set next week as soon as the Napolcom resolution approving the recommendation of Gen. Acorda is released, another official said.

Gen. Acorda last Monday designated Brigadier Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., a member of Philippine Military Academy ‘Tanglaw-Diwa’ Class of 1992 who will be the last PMAer to retire from the PNP in March 2027, as the new National Capital Region Police Office director.

Set to earn his 2nd-star very soon, Nartatez, the erstwhile PNP Director for Intelligence, was picked by Gen. Acorda to be the new NCRPO vice Major Gen. Edgar Alan O. Okubo, who was named as the new PNP Director for Police-Community Relations.

Okubo will be replacing Maj. Gen. Mario A. Reyes, who was named new PNP Director for Logistics.

Brig. Gen. Ronald O. Lee, the former PNP Deputy Director for Intelligence, will be the new PNP Director for Human Resource and Doctrine Development.

Lee will be taking over as the new DHRDD director vice Major Gen. Jon A. Arnaldo, who will replace Nartatez as PNP Director for Intelligence.

Maj. Gen. Eric E. Noble, the current PNP Academy director, was designated as the new PNP Director for Investigation and Detective Management. He will be replaced as by Brig. Gen. Samuel C. Nacion.

Brig. Gen. Alan M. Nazarro, the Deputy Director of the PNP Directorate for Information Communications and Technology Management, has been named as the new PNP Highway Patrol Group director vice Brig. Gen. Raul L. Bargamento, who retired after reaching the mandatory age retirement of 56 last Saturday.

The eight were set to assume their new roles last Tuesday, June 27, but the event was postponed after Abalos issued a press statement that the designation still needs approval of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ R. Marcos Jr.
