A welcome move
DON’T look now, but police commanders and other senior officials in the National Capital Region (NCR) are mandated to join street duty during the Christmas Season.
Described by many quarters, including ordinary citizens, as “timely and a welcome move,” the order was issued by Metro Manila police chief Brig. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin.
As decreed by Aberin, the senior police officials will be actively involved in “street patrols” in Metropolitan Manila (MM), which is the country’s premier region.
With a population of 14.9 million, MM is composed of the cities of Manila, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Pasig, San Juan, Taguig, Valenzuela and Quezon City, and Pateros.
We agree with various sectors that involving senior police officers in street duty during the Christmas Season “is a move in the right direction.”
Records show that criminal elements, particularly snatchers, pickpockets and holduppers, are “usually busy” even during broad daylight.
“Simbang Gabi,” a revered Filipino tradition in the country, starts Monday and ends on December 24, Christmas eve.
Tiyak ‘yon!
