VIVA One had a special preview at Cinema 76 for the first two episodes of their 6-part mini-series, ‘Deadly Love’, a dark mystery-thriller directed by Derrick Cabrido.

It starts with Louise de los Reyes running wildly in some muddy surroundings while acting as the show’s narrator who says she doesn’t know how her life has come to the messy situation that she is currently in.

In flashbacks, we see her as a little girl, the only child of her parents, Magda and Julio, who sheltered her and is so overprotective of her. She grows up and becomes Louise while her parents also get older and are now played by Jaclyn Jose and Raffy Tejada.

They own a coffee shop in town but Louise says she suspects that her parents are keeping something secret about their past lives from her.

While swimming with her best friend, Adeline, a tragedy happens. Adeline drowns and Louise is blamed for what happened. It turns out Adeline is pregnant and the father is the young lover of her mom (Pamela Ortiz.)

Louise then meets Marco Gumabao as Amir and they fall in love. But it seems Marco has another purpose in hooking up with her, which is to investigate her parents.

While ransacking the things of her parents at their home, her dad returns and the next thing we know, Marco is already missing. Louise suspects that her dad has something to do with it and this ends the first episode.

In the second episode, a new character is introduced, Benjo (McCoy de Leon), a young cop who was the schoolmate of Louise in grade school. The plot thickens when Benjo tells Louise that Marco has a clandestine mission with her parents, who are living a secret life.

We get a hint of what this is in a painting left by Adeline showing a gunman and a dead body. The second episode shows us what happened to Marco. And for you to find out what happened to him, you have to watch the series when it starts streaming on Viva One this Sunday, July 10.

The series is well-acted by Louise, Marco, McCoy and the always reliable Jaclyn. We have misgivings about the casting of Raffy Tejada since his looks easily betray what he is capable of doing.

As the dad, we need someone who looks more clean cut and wholesome, one who you’d think looks like a saint but will turn out later to be a dangerous wolf hiding in a sheep’s clothing.

The shows location is quite scenic and lovely. It was shot on location at the coastal town of Mauban, Quezon and the drone shots succeed in showing how beautiful the remote place is.
