THE Philippine National Police (PNP) dismissed from the service 903 officers and men in 2024 as part of its internal cleansing program.

A PNP statement said the 903 lawmen, including 28 commissioned officers, were dismissed from the service due to various offenses.

PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said the dismissals were part of a broader disciplinary action involving 2,765 police personnel.

These erring police officers and men were punished for various administrative charges, with the PNP also suspending 1,112 and demoting 108.

Likewise, the PNP, which is civilian in nature but national in scope, forfeited the salary of 103, reprimanded 423, restricted 82, and withheld the privileges of 34.

Without doubt, punishing erring cops will go a long way in transforming the premier law enforcement agency into a world-class police force.

Let us tell the world that our men and women in police uniform are here to protect and serve the country and the people, according to a village official.

“And we commend the top PNP leadership for hitting hard at erring police officers and men,” the well-meaning barangay official added.

In the eyes of the public, it’s a move in the right direction as the government implements its socio-economic programs.

We are all for this.
