FIVE separate anti-narcotics operations conducted by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police this week resulted in the arrest of eight “high-value targets” and the confiscation of around P9.2 million worth of shabu, PDEA chair Director General Wilkins M. Villanueva said on Friday.

One of the suspects identified as Menard Geraldo, a 42-year-old tricycle driver residing at No. 44 P. Rosales Street in Santa Ana, Pateros, was arrested in a buy-bust operation in front of the EDSA Canvas and Upholstery Supply along Bgy. E. Rodriguez, EDSA, Quezon City 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, the official said.

Villanueva said combined operatives of the PDEA National Capital Region Office and the Quezon City Police District Station 7 arrested the suspect shortly after he handed the drugs and took the marked money from an undercover officer.

Recovered from the possession of the suspect were a paper bag with a transparent Ziplock plastic containing 500 grams of the so-called “poor man’s cocaine” valued at P3.4 million and the boodle money topped by a marked P1,000 bill.

During initial questioning, the suspect said he just got out of prison last December and claimed he got acquainted with some jailed Chinese drug traffickers while in jail. The suspect alleged that he got the drugs with the help of his Chinese contacts.

The 2nd suspect identified as Fedencio Alvear was arrested in a sting at the parking lot of FMAS, South Hampton in Bgy. Balibago in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna 9:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Villanueva said that officers from the PDEA Regional Office 4-A and the local police recovered 500 grams of shabu from the suspect.

The other six suspected big-time drug personalities in the country were arrested by agents of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and the PDEA in three separate buy-bust operations which resulted in the seizure of an estimated P2.4 million worth of shabu, a report to PNP chief General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar said.

Two of the suspects identified as Darren Decene, 38, and Bernabeth Barrientos, 24, were arrested by combined operatives of the NCRPO Regional Intelligence Division and Regional Drug Enforcement Unit and the PNP-DEG in a sting along Roxas Boulevard corner EDSA Blue Baywalk in Bgy. 76, Pasay City 3 a.m. Monday, said NCRPO director Major Gen. Vicente D. Danao Jr.

Recovered from the possession of the two suspects were 50 grams of the so-called “poor man’s cocaine” valued at P340,000 and the boodle money topped by two marked P1,000 bills.

A silver Toyota Wigo with plate No. IAB 9931 used by the duo to transport the drugs was impounded by the NCRPO. The suspects are now being investigated at the NCRPO-RDEU office in Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City, said Danao.

The other two suspects identified as Marlon Abarca alias “Jay,” 31, resident of Pagrai Hills, Bgy. Mayamot in Antipolo City, and Ron Mark Reyes, 36, a technician from Bgy. Cupang, also in Antipolo City, were arrested by PNP-DEG operatives at the parking lot of Savemore along Gaya-gaya Road in Muzon, San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan about 9:30 p.m. last Sunday, said PNP-DEG director Brigadier Gen. Remus B. Medina.

Medina said confiscated from the possession of the two were an estimated 100 grams of shabu worth P680,000, two caliber .38 revolvers each containing five live ammunition, assorted identification cards and the P400,000 worth of boodle money topped by two marked P1,000 bills.

The suspect’s black Toyota Vios with conduction sticker A2GO58 was impounded by members of the PNP-DEG Special Operations Unit 4-B during the sting which they conducted with the support of the San Jose del Monte City Police Station.

Medina said that a record check showed that Abarca has been previously charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 but managed to get free after availing of plea bargaining.

The other two suspects identified as Lendi Lou Gorgonia, 34, and Alfred Greg Tuyor, 18, were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Bgy. Carmen in Cagayan de Oro City around 8:45 p.m. Sunday. A 3rd suspect identified as Saiben Edris, 25, is still being hunted as of press time.

Medina said members of the PNP-DEG SOU Bangsamoro Administrative Region led the sting which resulted in the arrest of the two suspects from Valencia City in Bukidnon after they conspired to sell 200 grams of shabu worth P1.360 million to a poseur.

All suspects are now facing non-bailable charges for sale and possession of prohibited drugs under RA 9165.
