EntengEnteng1Enteng2HEAVY rains triggered by tropical storm ‘Enteng’ battered many parts of the country on Monday killing eight people in Calabarzon and Central Visayas, officials said.

Six of the fatalities were from Antipolo City, Rizal who were killed in a landslide while three were due to drowning.

A landslide buried two houses in Sitio Hinapao, Brgy. San Jose, killing a 15-year-old male, his 12-year-old brother and their 27-year-old pregnant neighbor, said Relly Bernardo, chief of the Rizal Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Center.

Two others were drowned in Antipolo City, including an unidentified woman in Brgy. San Isidro and two in Brgy. San Luis, the official said.

He added that authorities are still searching for a 24-year-old male who went missing in Brgy. Sta. Cruz.

Two others were reported dead and 10 were injured in Central Visayas, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

The agency added that 14 families composed of 63 people in the region were also evacuated to safer places.

In a related development, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil on Sunday ordered all concerned Police Regional Offices to activate their respective Regional Disaster Incident Management Task Groups.

The order aims to help in search-rescue-relief-and-retrieval operations in typhoon-affected areas .

As of 10:00 a.m. Monday, the PNP said a total of 5,234 policemen have been deployed to help in all search-and-rescue operations and secure evacuation centers.

Col. Jean Fajardo, PNP spokesperson, said that they have received reports that two were killed and 10 were injured in a landslide in Brgy. Punta Princesa, Cebu City.

The information is still being validated by the Department of Interior and Local Government, she said.

The official said that police are also monitoring the situation in affected areas as well as the water level in Malabon and Marikina rivers.

Once authorities declare an Alert Level 3 in these areas, the police will help conduct preemptive evacuation of residents.
