76 vintage bombs unearthed in Davao City
SOME 76 World War II bombs yesterday were unearthed from a canal in Davao City.
Police said 13 round cartridge of 81mm mortar high explosives and four rounds of cartridge of 81mm mortar illuminators were found by workers of the JV Angeles Construction excavating soil in Purok 4, Bgy. Lower Lacson, Calinan.
Authorities immediately ordered a stop in the digging at Narval Road for clearing operation.
Laborers were cleaning the area to pave the way for pipe laying.
During clearing operation, some 44 more rounds of 81 mm mortar explosives and 15 rounds of 105mm mortar cartridges were excavated
Calinan Police Station chief Maj. Jake Goles said it was the most number of vintage bombs found since the construction firm started the putting up of pipes in the area.
The local police coordinated with the Explosives Ordnance Division Team-Task Force Davao for proper handling and disposition of the discovered bombs.
