NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director, Major General Edgar Alan O. Okubo on Wednesday announced the arrest of six Chinese nationals and their Filipino cohort accused of operating an illegal abortion clinic in Parañaque City.

The official said the seven whose names were withheld temporarily were apprehended during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City on Monday or after several weeks of surveillance triggered by reports about the suspects’ illegal activities.

Okubo said that prior to the sting, they received information that the suspects were operating an illegal abortion clinic and selling pills that causes miscarriage.

He said that during the entrapment operation, an undercover officer managed to buy abortion pills from the suspects prompting officers to place them under arrest after the deal was consummated.

Recovered from the possession of the suspects were one packet containing 25mg Mifepristone tablets, a packet of 100mg Cefixime Dispersible tablets, Metronidazole tablets and P3,000 in marked bills.

A search of the suspects’ establishment also yielded four medical beds for their ‘pregnant clients.’

All seven suspects were placed under the custody of the NCRPO. They are facing criminal charges for illegal practice of medicine or violation of Republic Act 2382 or the Medical Act of 1959 and RA 3720 or the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.
