AGENTS of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) have arrested seven individuals for unauthorized encroachment into forest land in Palompon, Leyte.

In a statement, the NBI-Environmental Crime Division (NBI-EnCD) said they arrested the suspects and were brought for inquest for violation of Section 78 in relation to Section 20 of Presidential Decree (PD) 705, otherwise known as the “Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines.”

The operation stemmed from a complaint claiming the existence of a poultry farm inside a parcel of land classified as “timberland/ forest land” in Barangay Lat-osan.

NBI-EnCD identified the subject poultry as “Zachary Farm” thru several surveillance operations.

Verification made with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region VIII revealed that no permits were issued to any entities or individuals in the said area.

On January 17, 2023, NBI-EnCD operatives proceeded to the target area, which resulted in the arrest of the seven suspects for occupying an area declared to be forest land.
