6 jailed for drugs, illegal guns by S. Mindanao cops

SIX persons were hauled to jail by agents of the Police Regional Office 11 (PRO11) during three separate anti-criminality operations on Saturday and Sunday which led in the seizure of a cache of illegal drugs and weapons and ammunition, a report to Philippine National Police chief, General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. said.

PRO11 director, Brigadier Gen. Benjamin H. Silo Jr. said that one of the suspects identified as Ramil Dumagonot alias ‘Timtim,’ a Top 10 Regional High-Value Individual in Southern Mindanao was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Purok Binagga in Barangay Tamisan in Mati City ,Davao Oriental around 9:25 p.m. Saturday.

Silo added that members of the Mati City Police Station led by Lieutenant Colonel Ernesto Gregore, joined by officers from the Regional Intelligence Unit 11 and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted the sting.

Recovered from the suspect were an estimated five grams of shabu worth P34,000, the buy-bust money topped by a marked P500 bill and several drug paraphernalia.

Four other suspects led by one Jessie Bantoy alias ‘Badjie,’ a known drug den maintainer were arrested in an anti-narcotics operation in Purok 5, Bgy. Southern Davao in Panabo City, Davao del Norte around 12:40 a.m. last Friday.

Silo said the operation was launched by his men amid a tip that Bantoy is maintaining a drug dive regularly being visited even by teenagers.

Apart from the 32-year old construction worker the others who were arrested during the sting were his brother Baby John,27; Ceddy Daclan, a 27-year old baler operator and Cresencio Fuentes,44, a bus conductor.

Recovered during the operation were seven plastic sachets containing an estimated 15 grams of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ valued at P102,000, assorted drug paraphernalia including aluminum strips and tooters with suspected shabu residue and the boodle money topped by a marked P1,000 bill.

All five suspects are facing criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, said Brig. Gen. Silo.

The 6th suspect identified as Oswaldo Noval was arrested during a raid in his house in

Purok 4, Bgy. Mabunao in in Panabo City which resulted in the confiscation of three caliber .45 semi-automatic pistols, a 12-gauge shotgun, several live ammunition and a tear gas.

Silo said members of the Panabo City Police Station and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group raided the suspect’s residence on the strength of a search warrant for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 and RA 9516 or illegal possession of explosives issued by Judge Gemma Betonio of the Panabo City RTC.

Recovered during the raid were three .45 pistols, several magazines containing 61 live ammunition, a 12-gauge shotgun with six bullets, a fragmentation grenade, a ‘jolen’ gun’ and ammunition from different gun calibers.

Silo said the suspect is now being held at the Panabo City police jail facing non-bailable charges for illegal possession of explosives and firearms and ammunition.
