7 injured, 1 missing in vessel fire, blast near Del Pan bridge

SEVEN personnel were injured while one is missing when the cargo vessel they were in caught fire and exploded while docked at the river area in Delpan on Saturday.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said the fire began at around 9 a.m. at the M/V Titan 8.

Elements from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) responded to the fire that reached fifth alarm.

A male passenger bound for Palawan remains missing while two personnel from the adjacent MV Princess Christine were wounded, along with four crew from the MV Titan.

A medical team from the PCG arrived and treated the wounded personnel.

Residents under the Del Pan Bridge were evacuated.

Initial investigation said that some houses from Barangays 286 and 275 in Parola, Binondo, Manila were affected by the fire.

The PCG bared that the MV Titan was docked in the area for refuelling before going to Palawan when the explosion occurred.

The PCG Marine Environmental Protection Command in the area dispatched six oil spill boom and two aluminum boats with rescue divers on board.

A notice to mariners was also issued by the PCG to advise other sea vessels in the area.
