SIX members of a family, four of them minors, died of suffocation after a fire broke out in their home Friday before dawn in Navotas City.

Navotas City Fire Station arson investigator SFO1 Neil Kevin Villanueva identified the fatalities as Donsito Boiser, 41; his wife Reynosa Muscoso, 41; daughters Arriana and Reinna, three and two years old, respectively; son Raymond, ten; and Natalia Boiser, 14, niece of Donsito.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the couple’s grandmother and their two other nieces, aged ten and 12, survived after they escaped from the burning house.

Fire Station Ground Commander F/Insp. Gabriel Trinidad said the fire started in the bedroom of the couple located on the second floor of the two-storey house at Barangay NBBS Dagat-Dagatan at around 5:29 a.m.

The fire, which was raised only to the first alarm, was declared under control at around 5:37 a.m. before it was finally put out at 5:37 a.m.

Neighbors of the victim told arson probers that when they saw thick smoke coming out from the victim’s house, they immediately knocked on the main gate, but no one answered until they saw the couple’s grandmother and two minor children rushed out of the burning house.

The survivors told arson probers that they tried to wake up the victims who were sleeping in the air-conditioned room upstairs by knocking on the door, but no one opened it until they decided to go down when they noticed that the ceiling was about to collapse after it was engulfed by fire.

Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the blaze and the estimated cost of damage to property.
