5 truckers caught driving under influence of shabu

FIVE truck drivers were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of shabu by combined operatives of Land Transportation Office and Philippine National Police (LTO-PNP).

LTO-Law Enforcement Service Director, lawyer Clarence V. Guinto, said the five drivers were apprehended during the implementation of the Anti-Overloading Law Thursday midnight in Quezon City and Bocaue, Bulacan.

The apprehending teams were composed of operatives from tje LTO, PNP-Highway Patrol Group, Department of Public Works and Highway and PNP-Crime Laboratory Unit.

Guinto said two suspects were arrested along Congressional Avenue Extension, one along Batasan Avenue both in Quezon City and two otherswere arrested in Bocaue.

The suspects wereflagged down for violation of the Anti-Overloading Law. However, further investigation conducted by the PNP-Crime Laboratory team showed the suspects tested positive for shabu, Guinto said.

The arrested suspects were turned over to the local police for proper inquest proceeding for violation of Section 5 of Republic Act 10586 or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act.

Guinto said other composite teams dispatched in Karuhatan in Valenzuela, IBP Road and Congressional Avenue in Quezon City, Bocaue in Bulacan flagged down 185 suspiciously overloaded trucks.

Out of 185 trucks, 138 were found to have violated Republic Act 8794 or Anti-Overloading Law.

“Tuloy tuloy po ang operations na ito para po sa kaligtasan ng publiko,” said Guinto.
