
5 men nabbed for illegal firearms in Bulacan, Batangas
CRIMINAL Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) operatives have arrested three men, led by an active policeman, for keeping a cache of weapons and explosives.
In a report to PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., PNP-CIDG director Major General Romeo M. Caramat Jr. said on Saturday that one of the suspects, identified as Sonny Borinaga, 49, was arrested by members of the Bulacan CIDG Provincial Field Unit.
Borinaga was arrested when policemen belonging to CIDG Bulacan raided his house in Barangay Kalawakan in Doña Remedios Trinidad last Thursday, June 29.
The CIDG-Bulacan officers were armed with a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 issued by Judge Sita Jose Clemente of the Malolos City Regional Trial Court Branch 16 when they raided the residence of the accused.
Recovered from the suspect were one hand grenade, three caliber .22 rifles, one Carbine automatic rifle, one 12-gauge shotgun, one cal. .45 semi-automatic pistol, two cal. .38 revolvers, seven assorted magazines and over 150 rounds of various live ammunition.
The suspect and the recovered weapons are now under the custody of the Bulacan CIDG. The suspect will be facing charges for illegal possession of explosive and firearms and ammunition.
Meanwhile, Sto. Tomas City, Batangas CIDG operatives arrested Senior Master Sergeant Carlito Escorsa Jr. of the Sto. Tomas City Police Station and former security guard Ramil Esperanzate for possessing one Colt M-16 automatic rifle with seven steel magazines, two ammunition guide, 67 live cal. 5.56 ammunition and the buy-bust money topped by a marked P500 bill.
The two were arrested during an entrapment operation in Bgy. San Antonio, Sto. Tomas City shortly before noon last Wednesday, June 28.
“Itong mga suspek ay gumagamit ng social media o online communication sa pagbebenta ng mga hindi lisensiyadong baril,” Caramat said.
The suspects were brought to the CIDG Batangas PFU office for further investigation. They will be facing charges for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
