5 fall for illegal sale of DA rice seeds – CIDG

PHILIPPINE National Police’s (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee on Monday announced the arrest of five men involved in the illegal sale of rice seeds from the Department of Agriculture (DA) during a series of entrapment operations in Cagayan Valley.

In a report to PNP chief, Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., the official said that three suspects were arrested while selling P250,000 worth of DA rice seeds with “Not for Sale” markings in Barangay Rizal in Saguday, Quirino province.

Two others were arrested in a sting in Bgy. San Juan in Echague, Isabela, which led to the recovery of P230,000 worth of DA rice seeds.

All arrests were made by the CIDG Regional Field Unit (RFU) 2 in coordination with the local police.

Lee said that the suspects are now facing charges for violating Presidential Decree 1612 or the anti-fencing law; Republic Act (RA) 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines and estafa.
