488 inmates receive COVID-19 shots

A TOTAL of 488 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) have recently received their COVID-19 shot at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) Hospital in Muntinlupa City.

Of the 488, around 344 PDLs got their second booster shot, while 53 received their first booster.

“These vaccines notably benefit persons who are immunocompromised owing to illnesses like cancer and HIV, helping them develop strong resistance against COVID-19,” the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said in a statement.

“The shots are required by the IATF to be given to all for extra protection against viruses,” the BuCor added.

BuCor is an attached agency of the Department of Justice (DOJ). Under the law, the DOJ has administrative supervision over BuCor.

The prison facilities under BuCor are The Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan, San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF) in Zamboanga City, Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City, Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Oriental Mindoro, and New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa.

Alos, the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) in Davao del Norte, and Leyte Regional Prison (LRP) in Southern Leyte.
