TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija – A total of 459 firearms were seized, surrendered or deposited for safekeeping by the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office (NEPPO) since Col. Ferdinand D. Germino took over as the province’s top cop five months ago on Sept.2, 2024.

The NEPPO achieved this as Germino immediately buckled down to work upon his assumption of office and ordered his chiefs of police to implement a total crackdown against loose firearms in the province.

Germino said the total crackdown was implemented in preparation for keeping “safe and secured” the holding of the upcoming midterm elections on May 12, 2025.

During his first five month-tour of duty, the implementation of 83 search operations, including the Commission on Elections’ gun ban, resulted in the confiscation of 100 loose firearms and the arrest of 75 suspects.

Also, the revitalized “Oplan Katok” and “Balik-Baril” programs, respectively, yielded 121 small arms and light weapons for safekeeping, and another 238 firearms that were voluntarily surrendered to the police.

A Novo Ecijano, Germino said these accomplishments align with the directives of Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Jean S. Fajardo to eliminate the dangers posed by illegal firearms, especially during this election period.

“As a Novo Ecijano, I take it as a solemn duty to serve and protect our community. We are committed to using every resource, manpower, and strategy available to prevent firearms from falling into the wrong hands. A secure and peaceful environment paves the way for a more progressive Nueva Ecija. Rest assured, our dedication to this mission remains steadfast,” the Nueva Ecija top cop said.
