40 firecracker-related injuries reported in Cavite

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite – Forty people in this province sustained firecracker-related injuries while celebrating the New Year, the Cavite Provincial Health Office (PHO) yesterday reported.

Among the cases involved 30 blast burn injuries without amputation and one blast burn injury with amputation; and nine eye injuries.

According to Dr. Nelson Soriano, head of the Cavite Provincial Health Office, 63% of the cases were caused by legal fireworks while 10% of the victims were under the influence of alcohol at the time of injury.

Soriano said the five types of firecrackers that caused the injuries were boga and kwitis, with seven victims (18%); fountain and whistle bomb, with six (15%); and luces, with four victims (10%).

Most of the firework-related injuries occurred at the residence of the victim.

Majority of the injured were sent home after treatment.

The hand, eyes, forearm, foot and head were the top body parts injured based on the December 21, 2024 to January 1, 2025 report of the PHO.
