4 family members die, 1 hurt in Catanduanes fire
FOUR members of a family, including two children , on Tuesday died while one was hurt in a fire that destroyed their house in Virac, Catanduanes.
The Bicol police identified the fatalities as Rosemarie Buentiempo, 28; her live-in partner Jzar Estacio, 25; and their children Klyne Buentiempo, 7; and Mix Buentiempo, 3, of Bgy. Concepcion, Virac town.
Benzon Buentiempo, a 37-year-old relative of the fatalities, sustained burnt wounds on his nape and arms.
“Nagkaroon ng putok. Pagmulat ko malakas na ang apoy,” Benzon told probers.
The victims were sleeping when the fire started at 4 a.m. on Tuesday.
Benzon said he was awakened by an extreme heat. He hurriedly ran out of the house to save himself from the raging blaze.
Responding firefighters were able to contain the blaze after more than 30 minutes.
The bodies of the four victims were found in the bedroom of the two- storey house.
An initial investigation showed faulty electrical wiring started the fire.
