35 nabbed in Caraga for illegal gambling
THIRTY-FIVE men engaged in illegal gambling in Caraga region were arrested by the local police in separate operations, Police Regional Office 13 director Brig. General Kirby John B. Kraft said yesterday.
The official said that the suspects were caught engaging in illegal cockfighting or”‘tupada,” number games like “swertres” and card games from September 6 to 12.
All have been charged for violation of Republic Act No. 9287 or an act increasing penalties for illegal number games and Presidential Decree No. 1602 which prescribes stiffer penalties for illegal gambling.
Kraft said that the Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office made the biggest number of arrest with 16 followed by the Agusan del Norte PPO with seven; the Surigao PPO with six; and the Butuan City Police Office and the Agusan del Sur PPO with three arrest each.
The PRO13 director added that the week-long anti-illegal gambling operations likewise led to the confiscation of P11,070 in bet money and various illegal gambling paraphernalia.
“PNP Caraga will not tolerate any illegal gambling activity in the region. I urge the people to be vigilant and report immediately to the nearest police station to help us root out these illicit operations,” Kraft said.
