SOME 65 children and teenagers in two youth centers in Lapu-Lapu City and Cebu City tested positive for coronavirus disease-19.

In Lapu-Lapu City, 31 kids, aged 9 to 10, and a social worker in a home care center for children were infected with COVID-19, Mayor Junard Chan yesterday said.

Chan, in an interview with Teleradyo, said they only learned the infection when a swab test was conducted on a graduating student who was about to leave for Iloilo.

Some 63 children are being taken cared of in the facility.

“Sa 31 bale, apat lang ang nagkaubo. The rest are asymptomatic,” the mayor said.

Chan said they are investigating how COVID hit the home care center since the children were not going out of the facility and are on modular learning.

In Cebu City, 34 teenagers in a youth center also tested positive for the dreaded disease.

Councilor Dave Tumulak said those infected were aged 13 to 17.

The youth center was placed on a lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus.

Health authorities are investigating on how the teenagers got COVID.
