THREE wanted rape suspects, one of them already 77 years old, are now in jail after being tracked down in their hiding places in the countryside by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), the Journal Group learned yesterday.

PNP-CIDG director, Major General Albert Ignatius D. Ferro identified the three suspects as Salvador Querido Sr., John Paul Perez and Julito Cabugnason Jr.

He said the 77-year-old widower listed as the most wanted person in Urdaneta City in Pangasinan was arrested inside the Urdaneta City Cultural and Sports Center last Sunday. The suspect is facing a case for statutory rape through sexual assault in relation to Republic Act 7610 or the anti-child abuse law.

On the other hand, Perez was tracked down in his hiding place in Bgy. Estefania in Bacolod City following a four-day surveillance. The suspect was ordered arrested by Judge Reginald Mercurio Fuentebella of the San Carlos City Regional Trial Court (RTC).

Listed as the 17th most wanted man in Toboso, Negros Occidental, the accused was identified as a member of a newly-identified crime group involved in illegal drug trafficking, robbery-holdup and gun-for-hire activities in the southern part of Negros Occidental.

Cabugnason meanwhile was arrested in Bgy. Taculing in Bacolod City by local CIDG officers armed with a warrant of arrest for rape issued against the suspect by Judge Ray Alan Drilon of the Bacolod City RTC Branch 41.

Ferro said the suspect has been in hiding for almost five years until he was caught.

“The CIDG reaffirms its commitment to combat and eliminate violence against women in its desire to protect and promote the welfare of women. Your CIDG Amigo Cops is both your arm and voice against sexual violence,” said Ferro as he maintained that they will never allow women and child abuse in the country.
