3 rifle grenades found in Ilocos Sur

CAMP GEN OSCAR FLORENDO, La Union – Three live rifle grenades were found during a road widening in Ilocos Sur, and inside an abandoned house were surrendered to authorities Sunday, January 29, 2023.

Reports reaching the office of P/Brig. Gen. John Chua, Police Regional Office (PRO) 1 director, a barangay chief, and one local resident in Bgy. Poblacion, Sugpon, Ilocos Sur, surrendered to Sugpon Police two rifle grenades which were turned over by a concerned citizen of the said barangay.

Based on the police report, the two rifle grenades were hauled by the municipal payloader during the ongoing road widening of Sitio Calipayan to Sitio Diclap barangay road on Jan. 27, 2023.

The explosives are now under the custody of Sugpon PNP (Philippine National Police) for documentation before turning over to DECU based at Candon City, Ilocos Sur, for proper disposition.

In San Esteban town, a village councilor of Bgy. Villa Quirino, San Esteban, brought a one rifle grenade with markings, including a case for the explosive, which was discovered in an old abandoned house.

The rifle grenade is now under the custody of said San Esteban Police for documentation and to be endorsed to the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Division) Police Provincial Office, Bulag, Bantay, for proper disposition.
