TAWI-TAWI policemen on Sunday clashed with a group of heavily-armed suspected drug traffickers in Tandubas municipality, killing three of the suspects and arresting three others, a report to Philippine National Police Officer-in-Charge (PNP-OIC) Lieutenant General Vicente D. Danao Jr. on Tuesday.

The slain suspects were identified as Nurhamin Madnur, Moh’d Al Sangogot, and an alias “Billy” while three others were arrested.

Prior to the gunbattle, members of the Tandubas Municipal Police Station received a phone call from a concerned citizen informing them about the presence of suspicious-looking armed men roaming around in Kalang Islet in Barangay Kakoong.

Officers who rushed to the site to verify the report said they were immediately fired upon by the suspects prompting them to retaliate, killing the three and later forcing the three others to surrender.

“Interestingly, records show that the suspects are notorious drug personalities. They became violent, and our personnel had to apply necessary and reasonable force to defend themselves against the aggression,” Danao said.

The arrested suspects are now facing charges for violating Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 after they were found possessing unlicensed guns.
