3 kids succumb to COVID-19 in Bacolod

THREE children died of COVID-19 in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental a local health official said.

Dr. Julius Drilon, the medical chief of Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, said more kids are being admitted in the hospital due to COVID-19.

He said of the 18 pediatric coronavirus patients in the hospital, three have died.

“Unfortunately, three sa kanila ay pumanaw,” the doctor told ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo.

The hospital head said at the height of the pandemic last year, no child was admitted to the hospital as compared to this year.

Dr. Drilon said the hospital also tests newborns for COVID-19 after two patients contracted the virus.

He added that the hospital’s total bed capacity is now 94 percent occupied, with non-COVID wards also getting full.

Earlier, two children of a pregnant woman confirmed infected with COVID-19 Delta variant tested positive for the virus, along with a male neighbor, the local government said.

As of Monday, Bacolod City has a total of 18,132 COVID-19 cases.
