3 kids roasted alive in Cabanatuan fire

CABANATUAN CITY – Three children who were sleeping inside their house perished when they were roasted alive after a fire of still undetermined origin gutted a row of four dwellings in this city on Sunday morning.

Police identified the fatalities as Celina Gonzales, 3; her ‘kuya’ Julius Cesar, 12; and ‘ate’ Cristine, 11, all children of spouses August Caesar, 41, and Carolina Gonzales, 43, of Alitaptap St., Purok 1, Bgy. D.S. Garcia, this city.

Probers said the fire started at 8:20 a.m. after the victim’s mother left the house while cooking food in the kitchen.

The house owned by the Gonzales couple was initially razed before partially damaging three other extension houses being occupied by the families of Benedicta Mejia, Alex Galves, and Junnathan Gonzales.

Case prober Police SSgt. Giovanni Macayanan said members of the Cabanatuan City Fire Station immediately responded to the area and were able to put out the fire at 8:55 a.m.

He said fire authorities have yet to determine the origin and cause of the blaze, including the total amount of damages to property.
