THREE men who were arrested while engaging in illegal gambling are now facing several criminal charges after policemen found in their possession a handgun and illegal drugs Wednesday afternoon in Makati City.

Southern Police District (SPD) Director P/BGen. Jimili Macaraeg said the arrest of Ricardo Dadivas, 35, Luisito Espino, 60, and John Patrick Espino, 21, stemmed from numerous complaints from concerned citizens about rampant illegal gambling and illegal drug activities in Bgy. Guadalupe Viejo.

At around 2 p.m., combined elements of Intelligence Section and Poblacion Sub-Station personnel responded to a complaint of residents of Coronado St. Brgy. Guadalupe Viejo about illegal gambling activity in the area that resulted in the arrest of the suspects who were caught in the act of playing dice.

When frisked, lawmen recovered from Dadivas a cal. 38 revolver loaded with live ammunition while plastic sachets containing dried marijuana leaves weighing 5.2 grams with standard drug price of P642.00, 1.2 grams of shabu valued at P8,160.00, P560.00 bet money, and a pair of dice were seized from Luisito and John Patrick Espino.

BGen. Macaraeg said the recovered pieces of evidence were turned over to SPD Forensic Unit for chemical analysis and ballistic examination while the suspects, who will be charged for violation of PD 1602 or Illegal Gambling, R.A. 10591 or Illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in relation to Omnibus Election Code and violation of R.A. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002 are now presently detained at Makati Police Custodial Facility.
