3 held for illegal transport of coco lumber

POLICE arrested on Saturday three construction workers while riding in a jeepney loaded with coco lumber in Cuenca, Batangas.

Cuenca Municipal Police Station commander P/Lt Nestor Mercado said the suspect were identified as workers Antonio Asiado, driver; 38, married, resident of Banay Banay 1st, San Jose, Vicente Lucañas, 53 married, and Ryan Villaflores y Ravis, 21, single, both residents of Bgy. Ibabao, Cuenca, Batangas.

A telephone call was received by Cuenca MPS informing that forest products were being transported illegally to Bgy. Dita, Cuenca.

Police led by PEMS Warren Cuevas Atienza, together with P/Cpl Lito Pilar Jusay immediately proceeded to the scene.

Police spotted a jeepney (DXB 267) loaded with coco lumber.

Upon verification, it was found out the suspects have no authorization from the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR) to transport the forest products.

The driver of the jeepney said the documents were left at home and he presented a student driver’s license only.

At that juncture, responding policemen confiscated their vehicles loaded with 33 pieces of coco lumber and quickly arrested the suspects.

The suspects are set to be charged for violation of Sec. 77 known as transporting forest products without legal documents.
