JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla has commended three Justice Department attached agencies for their accomplishments for the month of September.

In a report, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) claimed that it has embarked on efforts to ensure the security and safety of inmates in the different prison facilities in the country.

BuCor recently unveiled its newly-renovated armory at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF). The new structure is now fully surrounded by perimeter wires and fences to protect the facility and its resources against intruders and to ensure the security of inmates at the DPPF.

On the other hand, the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) conducted a crisis management training in preparation for any untoward incident within the facility such as riots, hostage-taking and noise barrage.

It also aims to ensure that IPPF personnel are fully prepared in cases of disasters such as earthquake and fire incidents.

BuCor also released a total of 558 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in September. Of the number, 143 PDLs were paroled, 313 were released due to expiration of sentence, 95 were acquitted, six were released on probation while one PDL was able to secure a bond.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel (OGCC) has recorded a 79% success rate. Of the 33 total number of decided cases last month, the OGCC secured three favorable decisions from the Supreme Court; four from the Court of Appeals; 13 from the Regional Trial Courts; two from the Municipal Trial Courts; two from the Department of Agrarian Reform Adjudication Board; and one each from the Central Board of Assessment Appeals and from the National Labor Relations Commission.

On the other hand, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) has a collection of P589,619,621 composed of miscellaneous and express lane fess, an 8.32% increase (P49,045,331) than its August collection of P540,574,290.
