SILANG, Cavite – The midterm polls in this richest town in the province of Cavite will see a three-corner fight in the mayoral and vice mayoral races.

Newly-sworn in Mayor Edward Carranza, ousted Mayor Kevin Anarna and ex-mayor Lourdes “Omil” Poblete will compete for the mayoral position of this municipality.

Incumbent Vice Mayor Mat Toledo, former Cavite 5th District Board member Macoy Amutan and Dra. Armin Guarin will battle for the vice mayoral post.

The poll bets filed their respective certificates of candidacy (CoC) at the office of Aries Cortez at the Silang Comelec Office in Bgy. Biga 1 on October 1-8, 2024.

Carranza, a retired police major general, will run in tandem with engineer Toledo while Amutan will be the running mate of Anarna.

Poblete and Guarin will show their girl power come May polls.

According to political observers in this town, the fight will be tough for the candidates who have their own supporters and the ability to win the race.

Carranza, formerly the vice mayor of Anarna, was recently sworn-in as mayor after the latter was suspended for six months by the Ombudsman and eventually dismissed from the service in connection with a complaint for alleged anomalies in the purchase of flowers and celebratory materials following the town’s fiesta celebration.

Anarna denied the allegations and vowed to fight the case and to continue his reelection bid in 2025.

Meanwhile, Poblete, who served as mayor of this town from June 30, 2013 to June 30, 2019, will also test his luck to return to his post in the coming midterm elections.

Poblete ran in the last 2022 election but was defeated by Anarna by more than 10,000 votes.
