244 daddies spend Father’s Day in jail

SUNDAY was a sad Father’s Day celebration for 244 lawbreakers in Caraga region after they were hauled to jail by the local police as a result of a region-wide anti-criminality operation, Police Regional Office 13 director, Brigadier General Romeo M. Caramat Jr. said.

“A total of 244 men, 72 of them wanted by the law for various criminal offenses celebrated Father’s Day in different jails, away from their wives and kids in the region. This is part of our stepped-up effort against criminality in the entire Caraga region,” said Caramat.

In a report to Philippine National Police chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar, the official said the 244 were arrested in a day-long conduct of Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operations or SACLEO, formerly known as the PNP ‘One-Time, Big-Time’ anti-crime operations against loose firearms, illegal drugs and wanted persons.

Brig. Gen. Caramat said that during the day, his men served a total of 75 search warrants for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 resulting in the arrest of 48 suspects.

He said that 83 assorted loose firearms and explosives were confiscated during the series of raids including two AK-47 assault rifles, one M1 Garand rifle, one AR-15 assault rifle, one M-79 grenade launcher, and 78 assorted small arms.

The PRO13 director said that his men also served 17 search warrants for violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 leading in the arrest of 24 known drug personalities in the region and the seizure of nearly 109 grams of shabu worth P1.278 million.

Caramat said that the day-long SACLEO likewise resulted in the arrest of 172 persons who are all the subject of warrants of arrest for various criminal offenses including murder, homicide, rape, theft and violation of RA 9165 and RA 10591.

Also arrested were one member of a known Private Armed Group, nine Most Wanted Persons in the Regional Level, 23 included in the Provincial Level, 58 in the City/Municipal most wanted level and 83 other Wanted Persons.

Caramat said that also jailed on Sunday were 17 known New People’s Army personalities in Caraga while nine others surrendered to them following negotiations with local police officers. The nine also surrendered their weapons and ammunition to the police.

The PRO13 director said that appropriate criminal charges are being readied against the suspects who were arrested for illegal possession of prohibited drugs and firearms and ammunition while those covered with search warrants will be presented to the court for issuance of jail commitment orders.
