DUE to rising cases of the coronavirus disease, the City Government of Navotas announced that it would enforce anew the 24-hour curfew for minors.

Mayor Toby Tiangco cited a July 17 COVIDKAYA report stating that Navotas posted a 105.06% 2-week growth rate of COVID cases, the highest in Metro Manila.

“In June, we had the lowest average daily attack rate in the region. We even recorded 41 active cases on June 25. Now, our active cases have multiplied almost four times. We cannot be complacent. We need to implement additional measures to keep our people safe, especially the children and vulnerable sectors,” he explained.

“Each of us wants our life to go back to normal. However, we are facing a pandemic and we need everyone’s support and cooperation in keeping each other safe,” he added.

Earlier, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) passed a resolution allowing children aged 5 and above to go outdoors in areas under general community quarantine and modified GCQ.

According to Tiangco, Navotas was already preparing to implement the said policy but decided to hold it off because of the steady rise of COVID cases.

“Our barangays have already sent a list of areas we could open for children. Unfortunately, our cases have gone up that’s why we needed to defer its implementation,” he said.

“We understand the clamor of some parents to allow children to go out. In as much as we want them to enjoy being outside, we also want them to remain safe in their homes and not risk contracting the disease,” he added.

“Life is at stake. Let us protect each other by following the health protocols, especially the proper wearing of face mask, and doing our utmost to prevent getting infected or infecting others,” he also said.

As of July 19, Navotas has recorded 11,249 cases. Of this, 10,719 have recovered, 152 are active, and 378 have died.
